Equipment and therapies program
Children with diagnosed brain disorders require the hire of specialist equipment to be able to be discharged from hospital to home, such as a specialist wheelchair, car seat, oximeter, seizure monitors, custom made compression garments and dynamic splints, toileting and feeding. With their diagnosis often unexpected, families simply can’t afford the thousands of dollars needed to hire or purchase the equipment.
The child may be eligible for an NDIS package, but with a plan now taking over 12 months to secure, families must pay for their child’s treatment prescribed by the hospital. For low income families, Brainwave can fund the cost of their child’s occupational, speech and other therapies.
Brainwave’s Equipment and Therapies Program assists children with their discharge from hospital, continue their treatment at home and enable mobility. Requests are made using the online Apply for Funding form [link] from the family’s hospital contacts or health workers.
The Program also supports parents and siblings with their therapy needs – such as psychological counselling, as well as educational needs for siblings struggling with school.

How you can help
Much of the equipment we supply to our families are expensive due to having unique alterations for each specialised piece of equipment. If you would like to help our children, please donate old equipment to us or donate to help fund the products and services for our families.
The impact
Each weekly schedule consists of video learning activities. Your child will learn about basic principles of astronomy, physics, earth science, and more.
“Small things can be life changing and until you’ve lived this life, of caring for a child with additional needs you don’t realise how beneficial the small thing can be, such as having access to a piece of equipment or a hotel room. These can change lives. It might seem small but to our families it so big”.
