Austin
Austin aged 2 years was diagnosed with Merosin Deficient Congenital Muscular Dystrophy at the age of one. This condition causes hypotonia (decreased muscle tone, floppiness) and reduced movements and contractures in the hips, knees and elbows. Austin requires full support in all positions and is totally dependent on his parents for all his mobility and daily care.
One of Brainwave’s core programs is helping to improve the quality of life of children such as Austin through funding equipment and therapies that will help the child participate fully in community life. In Austin’s case, this included being able to undertake approximately 6 months of hydrotherapy which as the testimony indicates Austin loves and values. Brainwave is essentially about helping children not only survive; but to thrive.
