On Sunday 22 October, 176 Brainwave children and their families were treated to a fun day out at Featherdale Wildlife Park, New South Wales for the annual Brainwave Australia Family Day. Families enjoyed a barbeque buffet lunch, extraordinary face painting, a touch of magic and up-close encounters with baby joeys and slippery, slimy snakes!
Featherdale Wildlife Park delivered a first-class experience. The Drover’s Hut came to life with music, food, colourful theming set off with sweet smelling gum leaves and baby koala take home gifts. The children were given a challenge—to stamp their entry passports when sighting native Australian animals in exchange for a prize. To complete the day, the children were rewarded with icy poles and Ferrero Chocolates, these treats always bring huge smiles to everyone’s dials.
According to Laurence, Brainwave’s Program Manager, “to see our families come together in the spirit of fun and friendship; genuinely enjoying the day was heart-warming. When families join Brainwave, they are treated as our family and we aim to give everyone an experience they will remember. Our family day is a chance to set aside your worries and pressures, even if it’s just for one day, to enjoy the company of a supportive community who are ready to help you have fun”.
Brainwave mum, Rachel had this to say, “What a success the day was. To be grouped together at the Featherdale event with families we had met earlier in the year at camp was incredible, we got to build on that strong bond. My daughter Chelsea was able to collect other siblings contact details. For my girls to have that connect, a safe person to vent with is incredible. Our Facebook pages are flowing with beautiful pictures of our kids reunited”.
The day ran smoothly with the help of volunteers from corporate partners, Ferrero Australia and QBE together with long standing community volunteers, Richard, Laura, Jorge, Dijana and Stephanie. We are so proud to have you as an extension of our Brainwave team, thank you for your contribution on the day and for your ongoing support of the wonderful families Brainwave supports.
The 2017 Brainwave New South Wales Family Day would not have been possible without the generous financial contribution from the Mazda Foundation. On behalf of Brainwave and the families we support - our sincere thanks.
