On Saturday 25 November, 280 New South Wales Brainwave children and their families came together to help celebrate Christmas at iconic Luna Park—a much loved tradition spanning nine years.
Based on the shores of Sydney harbour, with stunning views across the water and rides to excite all ages and abilities, this venue does not disappoint. In the spirit of fun, children and families enjoyed taking silly photos with Christmas props, writing thoughtful and well considered letters to Santa—posted just in time to reach the North Pole before Christmas and having their faces painted.
Families enjoyed a spread of culinary delights and treats. The impish elf amused the children and the big man in red stole the show; the queue for photos with Santa and gifts ensuring the spirit of Christmas was kept alive and well. It was heart-warming to see families and friends reunite, siblings of families catching up and the smiles on our Brainwave children made this day the special event it always is. According to Laurence, Programs Manager, “to see the impact events such as Christmas parties have on our families is very humbling. Reading messages such as, ‘it was another fantastic day with you all. We had the best time ever,’ from Austin’s mother Lisa, brings meaning and purpose to the work that Brainwave does”.
A key ingredient to making the Brainwave Christmas party such a success is the fun spirited and generous contribution of our corporate and community volunteers. Ferrero, QBE and Burberry together with community volunteers Richard, Laura and Jorge brought Christmas cheer and delights with their smiles, chocolates galore, sense of fun and a genuine care for our families.
To see everyone enjoying themselves and so much good cheer among our families makes the work we do so worthwhile. A sincere thank you to our talented face painter; Krystal who volunteered her time; being kept busy through to finish – you were amazing! Thank you to all our volunteers; our families being the lucky beneficiaries.
On behalf of Brainwave we wish our families, corporate sponsors and volunteers a safe and happy Christmas for 2017 and we look forward to your company in 2018.
