You can’t stop Brainwave from having a good time!! Eighteen families travelled across arterial routes to join in the fun at Kids In Motion on Friday 10th July. What’s so special about that, you ask? Kids In Motion is all about the thrill of trying physical challenges outside of the box! Think rock climbing blindfolded, swinging from hoops into trampolines, throwing balls at targets from trampolines and jumping into foam pits! Not to mention rolling, twisting, jumping and navigating through equipment of various shapes and sizes.
Under the careful eye of skilled trainers and parents, Brainwave children with a range of neurological conditions including brain tumours, autism, cerebral palsy, strokes, acquired brain injuries and epilepsy attempted these challenges alongside their siblings; each child working within their limitations and enjoying the unique experience.
The Brainwave Kids N Sibs School Holiday Workshop aims to bring the Brainwave child and their siblings together to experience fun challenges that are often attempted separately in their own communities. Families feel safe in the knowledge that they are supported; allowing siblings the enjoyment of just being themselves and having fun!
The day included an amazing magic show; with the full complement of furry friends. Ashley mesmerised the children with his magic tricks whilst James the face-painter added a splash of colour to the day; attending to everyone’s alter egos; including adults!
The day would not have been possible without the help of our corporate volunteers from Mercedes-Benz, QBE and our community volunteer, Deanna who rolled their sleeves up and got into the spirit of the day.
Thank you to all the families for attending the day. Our sincere thanks to Sandy and Trent Brooks from Guardian Medical for sponsoring the event. Without their financial support the day would not have been possible. Finally a big thank you to Kids In Motion for creating a unique space where children are given the opportunity to explore their abilities.
Testimonial by Jan Pritchard (parent) with son Logan and daughter Amelia;
Thank you Brainwave Australia for a fantastic afternoon yesterday. My kids both loved it! The magician, Kids in Motion, and the dinner box…all fantastic! Thankyou again for another great event and allowing us to be part of the Brainwave family.
