Brainwave NSW Family Day 2018

On Sunday 9 September, many of our NSW Brainwave children, siblings, parents, carers and volunteers joined us for a brilliant Family Day at Calmsley Hill City Farm in Abbotsbury.

The fun-filled day included animal petting and a variety of farm shows and experiences, such as a working dog show, sheep shearing, a koala exhibition, a stockwhip show and cow milking.

A real highlight of the day for many was taking a tractor ride around the farm, seeing the animals and enjoying great views of the 400+ acres of farm land on the Calmsley Hill City Farm property.

Musical entertainment was provided by Barb Wire, a fabulous Bush Band duo, who were real crowd pleasers, playing well known bush ballads which had children and adults alike tapping their feet and even joining in some bush dances!

Children took great delight in having their faces painted in fabulously bright designs and their arms adorned with air brush tattoos.

A buffet BBQ lunch provided sustenance for the day’s activities, followed by an afternoon tea of much-loved Aussie lamingtons, yum!

Attendees included the Garofalo family, whose son Cameron “…had a lot of first moments [at the farm]…” according to his Mum, Rachel.  “It was incredible, staff were so welcoming and really helped make the day fun for everyone. Cameron loved the tractor, the whole time he was kicking and laughing with excitement,” said Rachel.

A tremendous team of community volunteers, corporate volunteers from Ferrero and QBE, along with the fantastic farm staff, brought an added element of fun, laughter and great care to this very special event.

Brainwave would like to sincerely thank the 31 families who made the trip out to Abbotsbury on a delightfully warm, sunny Sunday, to share in all the fun at the farm with us.

We can’t wait until the next time!

This family day event was made possible thanks to generous support received from principal partner Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific and donations received at the Mercedes Trophy National Final.
