Brainwave Christmas Luna Park – Melbourne

On Sunday 4 December, in a break from tradition, Brainwave held a twilight Christmas party to commemorate the year and to celebrate Christmas. It was pleasing to see over 460 Brainwave children, their families and supporters joining in the fun.

The humid and windy conditions did not stop anyone from getting into the spirit of the day. Brainwave had exclusive use of the Garden Terrace – a place for families to retreat away from the crowds. Beautifully decorated with our colourful Brainwave balloons and spectacular Whirlys – complements of our friends at whirly.com.au, the families were treated to a very special day.

The children were mesmerised by the playful fairy and her magical tea pot. The cheeky elf had the children laughing and squealing in delight; creating mischief wherever he could. It was wonderful to see adults and children having their faces painted, the artwork creations were extraordinary.

Santa was as popular as ever and patiently listened to each child’s story. We love watching this encounter so much that this year we added a letter writing station where children could handcraft a personalised letter (and wish-list) for posting in Santa’s red letter box.

“To see the delight on the faces of the children when opening their presents was priceless. We love bringing smiles to the faces of the children and to give families the opportunity for some fun and a well-earned break. We are also proud to be able to accommodate large families who mostly would not have the opportunity to experience Luna Park as a family”, says Laurence Hennessy, Brainwave Programs Manager.

Families were treated to a barbeque fit for a king including an array of fresh salads. A big thank you to Luna Park who ensured we were all hydrated with an endless supply of water to combat the heat.

We need to recognise the amazing work of our Brainwave elves – our corporate volunteers from principal partner Mercedes-Benz and major supporting partner QBE.  Many volunteers return each year giving their time selflessly to help at our events.  As a small charity we are most grateful and could not host our events without this support.

A Brainwave event would not be the same without a supply of chocolate treats from Ferrero. Each year Ferrero generously supplies Brainwave with chocolates to ensure every child leaves with a smile.

Finally, our heart-felt thanks to Chain Reaction for giving 100+ families the opportunity for some much-needed fun and respite. We are so grateful to your organisation and riders for sponsoring this much-loved event for a second year in a row.

On behalf of Brainwave we wish our families and supporters a safe and happy Christmas and best wishes for 2017!
